50 yrs of tradition and trust continues...
The Oshawa Monument Company was founded in 1961 by John Martin.
After coming out of the army, John started working with a monument company in Kingston. A few years later he moved to Toronto to work with a much larger company. Because of his integrity, honest and excellent workmanship, he had been promoted to shop superintendent responsible for thirty five employees.
Some years later, John became acquainted with the Oshawa area when he worked on the installation of the R.S. McLaughlin Mausoleum. He liked the area very much, decided to start his own business and raise his family here in 1961.
In 1966, youngest son Gord came to join his father full time. Gord with his wife Sharon took over the family business and worked together serving the Durham Region residents for a number years. They too decided to stay in the Oshawa / Clarington area and raise there family.
Gord's son Dan started right from high school working with his parents to grow the business into one of the top Monument Companies in the Durham Region / Clarington Area. Today Dan along with Chris Forbes (his brother-in-law) have taken over a lot of the day to day running of the business as Gord comes closer to retirement.
